Abstract
Korean hemorrhagic fever (KHF) occurred for the first time in Korea during Korean conflict among UN Forces residing in Yunchun and Chulwon areas in 1951, although it had previously been known to both the Japanese and Russian in Manchuria and Siberia, respectively.
After Korean war, the disease had beea fixed in the areas of demilitarized zone as an endemic one, and the causative agent has gradually spread in a southwesterly direction and from 100 to 400 hospitalized cases have been being raported every year.
Etiologic agent of KHF has not been isolated yet but results of the epidemiologic and entomologic studies indicated that the field rodents might play as a reservoir of the disease.
1. Hospitalized patient suffered from Korean hemorrhagic fever in 1973 was 478, among them soldier was 237 aud civilian was 241.
2. There were 6 species of field rodent collected in the endemic foci and the most prevalent species were Apodemus agrarius coreae, and Microtusfortis pelliceus and Crosidura lasiura lasiura were next.
3. Seasonal incidence of field rodent was correlated with incidence of KHf patient, one big epidemic in Oetober, November and December of 1973 but no small peak in late spring.
